The Karotto is an abstract enemy in CrossWorlds. They can be encountered in Bergen Trail.

Abstract
Karotto

It is said that this curious being was brought to life by a sorceress in a moment of loneliness but it got left behind which transformed it into a mean Gatling Gun wielding grump. It doesn't really need to but will attack anything that comes close to it by disguising itself as a simple snowman. Getting close for too long is not a good idea as it will use a ground slam attack to deal a lot of damage.

-Monster Fibula report

Appearance[ | ]

The Karotto is a large snowman with coal eyes, a carrot nose and a black top hat with a black hatband. While fighting, its hatband turns red, it extends two sticklike arms, and carries a large cannon made of snow. It can walk around on short, stumpy legs.

Combat[ | ]

The Karotto is rare among exploration enemies in that it becomes aggressive on getting too close to it, not only if it is attacked. While fighting, it will generally keep its distance, slowly following Lea if she moves too far away. Its standard attack is shooting a spread of three snowballs from its cannon. Although this attack does show the cannon charging beforehand, the animation is subtle and easily missed, particularly while attacking it. It also has a more powerful attack consisting of a rapid-fire spray of snowballs. It will pull out a larger cannon for this attack, which has a loud and obvious charging animation. Finally, attempting to use Melee attacks on a Karotto will cause it to jump, landing heavily and damaging anyone around it. All three attacks are Cold-elemental.

Strategies[ | ]

The Karotto's high defense makes it a very challenging enemy for low-level players. Its attacks hit hard, and should be avoided if at all possible. The weak attack is easily dodged, but is also easy to overlook. However, it is repeated at regular intervals, so with a bit of practice it is possible to anticipate the attack. The strong attack is quite long and tracks Lea, so dodging is not the best option and taking cover behind something would be preferable. Fortunately, the long charge animation provides time to do so. Due to its jumping, close-range attacks can be quite dangerous. To combat this, it is possible to use the Guard Sphere skill, or use hit-and-run tactics. Dash Arts can be particularly useful for this. Alternatively, keep your distance to more easily dodge attacks, but be warned that the fight may be quite long if doing so.

The Karotto is quite slow, and harmless if kept out of line-of-sight, which makes it easy to avoid while finishing off other aggressive enemies.

The Karotto is the first non-dungeon enemy to become aggressive without needing to be attacked first, which can be quite dangerous to those who are not expecting it. Note that this happens identically to attacking an enemy, meaning that other nearby enemies will also become aggressive.
